The Latin Quarter, Galway

The Latin Quarter Galway
Galway's Latin Quarter

"A highlight for many visitors to Galway is strolling along the medieval pedestrianised streets of the city's Latin Quarter. The area is characterised by buskers, boutiques, unique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Geographically, The Latin Quarter is best defined by some of Galway's most historic landmarks. Starting at St. Nicholas' Church, it runs through Galway's Saturday market and onto O'Brien's Bridge. From there it follows the River Corrib down to the Spanish Arch where the Galway City Centre Museum is located and then swings back along Middle Street and turns up Buttermilk Lane where it joins the starting point.

The retail shops of The Latin Quarter are largely locally owned and it boasts some of Galway's best loved and most iconic restaurants.

Among the festivals that take place in The Latin Quarter are the Little Havana Festival in June and 'Galway Aboo!' at Halloween."
